Episode 58, 59, 60: Piñatas, Kidney Stones, And Minecraft
Sorry I am literally so lazy when it comes to writing emails #sorrymom
Also I'm not gonna divide this one into weeks (...because I'm lazy), so all of these events have happened at least within the past 3 weeks
OK cool here we go !
One of these past weeks was essentially all spent indoors. I had gone on a split Monday night, and when I came back the next night I'd discovered that one of my comps has basically been dying all day. A doctor had told her she may have kidney stones, which was a bit worrying. We went to a lot of doctors appointments -- including one spent waiting for like 3 hours. All in all we were basically stuck inside for a week, which led me to take up some pretty interesting ways to pass time. Every night me and my non-afflicted companion would release all of our pent-up energy by dancing as hard (and as painfully white) as we could for a few minutes. I don't know if I could be paid to include videos of that. Anyways, my comp is all better now, all is well, and no kidney stones were found.
This week we had the best faatam of my life. It was with a young married couple in our ward, who had also both serve missions. They took us out to eat, and while the food was gas, the conversation was the best part. We talked about their mission experiences, their families, and, most importantly, minecraft. We've been asking people in this ward if they like minecraft (because we think it's funny), and so far nobody had said yes, before these guys. The wife said "yes, but not with my husband; I like building stuff and he just comes and blows it up". We laughed pretty hard at that hahah. They were just super cool and it was really fun to be able to talk to people a little closer to our age. They're some of our new favorite members.
There's a new language on the language study docket. It's called "op", and it was made by the high school boys that my comps sister works with back in America. Basically, you put the word "op" before vowels. It's been pretty funny to speak with my comps and try to teach other missionaries some op. Copomope lopeoparn opop wopith opus!
This past week, the missionary couple in our district did us an amazing service and made us a huuuge Mexican food feast. We're talking enchiladas, tacos, homemade pico and guacamole, etc etc etc. The food was absolutely delicious but the highlight was the piñata they brought. As soon as we saw it, I knew how it was gonna go. All the elders got really excited as they got to take turns with the big stick, but that one broke, so we had to pull out an even bigger stick, and that got the job done pretty good
Had my second mission Thanksgiving a few weeks ago! It was during our sick week tho so it was a bit uneventful. We did feel well enough to have a Thanksgiving lunch with the district, and to go to an activity with our ward. Had some turkey and tbh it was pretty gas for Tahiti. I ate so much at our district lunch tho that I had to sit down on the floor with my eyes closed for like 20 minutes hahah. Totally worth it, because there were turkey sandwiches, a 7 layer salad, and pumpkin cheesecake. No regrets at all. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well!
A few days ago we got a call from a lady requesting a hospital blessing. Because we are literally neighbors with the hospital/it's in our sector, it's our job to figure out how to go about them, so we told her we could come with the nearest elders the next evening. So we call up the elders, fix a time, and voilà. Next day comes, we join up with the elders, and I start giving them the details of the lady's name, room number etc, when one of the elders is like "..wait. what's her name again?" Come to find out she called them herself and had them come over the night before lol. So we figured we'd still go visit, but visiting hours were then over, so we couldn't. That night we get a text from the lady not asking, but telling us to come the next day. So what can you do. We show up the next day, walk in, and she's like "oh, you're girls". She was pretty interesting hahah. The entire time she was either vaguely insulting us or complimenting us which was pretty funny. But she was sweet, and we got to have some unforgettable moments with her. She's also doing great now, so blessings (and modern medicine) work miracles.
Overall, in this sector, I've seen some incredible miracles. In our friends, in making relationships, and in ourselves. Sometimes the work is a bit slow going (as in we get canceled on a lot lol), but that hasn't yet stopped the work of God from rolling on. We are so blessed to be tools in His service, servants in His vineyard. Every day here is such a great blessing, getting to see the steady progression of those we teach, and getting to learn about the members we serve around. I love it here in Pare, and we're living every day like it's our last in this sector!
Anyways, voilà. Maybe next email will be more normal. For this time though, that's all I got. I love you all, thanks for all your messages and prayers! <333
