Episode 52, 53, 54: Baptism + Birthday
joyeux lundi à tous ! comment allez-vous ?
WEEK 52:
This week Aukai got baptised!! I'm so so happy for him, he was so ready and his faith and testimony are so strong for only being like 10 years old. His baptism was pretty chaotic (because I have no idea what I'm doing) but we pulled it off, got a pretty big crowd to come, and had a great time. I gave the talk on baptism and can't lie, it was pretty sick.
We also ate dinner with Aukai's family, which was super fun. I was playing a "game" with him which was basically "America vs. Tahiti". We would draw the differences between the two countries for the most part, but at some point I got into a sorta bet with Aukai, and lost, and ended up singing the national anthem really awkwardly lol. This is why we're not supposed to bet, you guys. You end up singing the national anthem.
We visited the Matautau family this week! We haven't seen them in a hot second, but we had some plates and bowls that members gave us to donate to people in need, so we gave them to them. And they really appreciated it! We asked if we could come by the next week for a lesson, and they agreed. Big score
WEEK 53:
It was my birthday this week -- I turned 21, so I can officially drink now, according to America's laws. According to God's laws, I can drink never, which I think is a better idea.
Also, thank you all so so so much for all the birthday cards, messages, etc., I loved all of them so much and it seriously made my week. Thank you all so much!! I love u <3
This week we'd visited a bunch of inactive members as a sort of weekly goal. It went really good! We visited this one member who was really nice, she'd not been to church in about a year and so we're trying to get her back little by little. But as we were talking to her these Americans come up to us and give us (well, they gave the member) mangoes, and then said to come visit them in their AirBnB when we were done. So.. obviously we did. And it was so fun. They're actually members too and it was a really fun little visit. And they gave us half-eaten Trader Joe's trail mix! Trail mix is my favorite so I took what I could get.
This week we also finally had a lesson with the Matautau family, who we'd not seen in like a month. And it was great! There were a lot of kids and it was pretty chaotic, but that's just how it is sometimes. The spirit was still there, and that's what's important. We taught about faith, played a little game. It was a good lesson! Hopefully we'll be able to ramp it up in these next few weeks.
WEEK 54:
This week was good -- I went on a split to Mahina and it was super great. For my first 2 transfers in Moorea, everytime we'd go back to Tahiti I would never wanna go, but at this point Tahiti's looking pretty good. Mahina is super beautiful, and me and Sœur Thurgood had a great time teaching a bunch of old mamies. The day ended with probably the best brownies I've ever had.
We did a bunch of phone contacting this week, and we basically just called a bunch of people who hadn't been contacted by the missionaries in a while. We got a lot of lessons/meetings for this week, but the coolest miracle was with this girl named Temehani, who we had put as a gray point not too long ago. She'd been really interested in the church and wanted to take lessons, but her school schedule was crazy so it wasn't really working out. But she still came to church on Sunday so that's cool. Anyways, we reached out to her and she said that she'd just been to an activity over the weekend, like a fireside or something, and it really touched her to be around so many members with strong testimonies, and basically she was just like "I prayed about it and I wanna be baptised!" Sooo voilà alors !
For a little spiritual thought, I wanted to share my thoughts on one of my recent studies from Luke 24:47-48.
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
I really liked these verses because they stress the importance of the simplicity of our message. We're really preaching repentance and change toward a better direction, to the core. Not only that, but we are witnesses of the truths we teach. If we don't have our own witness of these principles, we cant really preach them -- not sincerely, at least. Being a witness preceeds being a testament.
Anyways that's it. Hope you all hve a wonderful week ! Thank you again for all the messages, and helping me feel special. I love you all ! <3
