WEEK 44:
We got shrimp curry for a meal this week and as I'm eating the shrimp I'm thinking "hmm. This is bad shrimp. Kinda tough... still gonna eat it though." So I eat another shrimp. Only then do I get the feeling that maybe I'm doing something wrong and I jokingly ask my comp if you're supposed to "peel the shrimp" or something. She says "yeah" and I look at my shrimps, realizing I've been eating the shells and legs. So.. I learned how to eat a shrimp this week.
The best part of this week was a visit we had with Mireille (the girl involved in the accident) and her mom. These people are so incredibly kind -- they showed up with a box of bananas, juice, and crackers for us. Don't worry, we made them some cookies, so we didn't look completely lame. The visit was so lovely though, we even played some guitar together! It was really so nice to see them and talk with them, they're so christlike in their kindness and empathy.
WEEK 45:
This week was good too ! We started it out with a manhunt for our friend Tiare, who's phone hadn't been working lately. We somehow ended up finding her, but she was too busy burning stuff in a field, so we left her to it. Our other goal was to find this grey point, and we actually found her walking on the side of the road, so we set up a visit with her for next week. So yeah, getting pretty good at tracking people down.
This week we also found a bunch of new friends ! One of them is this little kid named Aukai, and he's so adorable. He loves writing, and he showed us his big folder of stories he's written -- he reminds me of myself as a kid hahah. I'm so excited to keep teaching him though, I love teaching kids, they're so so fun !! For any missionaries reading this, please drop your favorite "lesson games"/object lessons, we could use some good ones.
I've restarted Doctrine and Covenants this week. Section 4 is a classic -- especially for missionaries -- but it's always so good. One of my favorite parts are the verses 3 and 5:
3 "Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;"
5 "And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work."
If we have the desire to serve, even if it is the *smallest* desire, we are called unto it. And after we are called, we are qualified for this work by out faith, hope, charity, love, and devotion; again, no matter how big or small. As missionaries, God doesn't ask us to be perfectly ready/prepared to serve. Rather, all He asks is that we first have the desire, and then that we have saplings of Christlike attributes that will inevitably grow during our time in His service. Even if we are in the field, already wearing the tag, we are called by the desire, and qualified by the seeds of faith, hope, charity, etc that we have. If all we have in a day is the tiniest desire and a grain of faith, that's enough for God, so long as we continue forward and upward, with Him.
Anyways there it is folks, I hope you all have a great week ! I love you all so big <3 don't forget to peel your shrimps
