Episode 39, 40, 41: The Hilton
... yeah it's another 3-in-1
Hey hi hello tout le monde !
These past weeks have honestly been probably some of the best in my entire mission. Moorea is a blessed island and I see that every single day I'm out here. I cannot express how happy I am out here and how amazing this work is. So, here's a few highlights of the past three weeks.
On our Pday 3 weeks ago, we all decided we would go check out the other side of the island/do a tour of the whole thing. We ended up finding this little tourist place with a bunch of shops, an acai bowl place.. I was living my best life. We also ended up at the Hilton, where we ate lunch while looking at the bungalows. It was really weird to be surrounded by a ton of English speakers though.
We've been making really good progress with one of our friends, Muriel. She's an older mamie who has been taught by the Sœurs for a little while. One of her sons is a member, and she's been to our church a few times. Since the start of this transfer though, we've been having some great lessons with her, and she even came to church yesterday! We asked her if she believes that the things we're teaching her are true, and she said she did. We're thinking about asking her about baptism this week !
This past week we had zone conference, which was super great. Since we're out here on Moorea, we had to take a big ferry back to the mainland, and since it was rainy/stormy that day, the ferry was pretty rough haha. But we made it without (too much) sickness. In the conference we talked a lot about the new Preach My Gospel, which is seriously so awesome. I love it so much -- its got so much good advice for teaching and finding. It's not just for missionaries ! Crack it open, it's such a great tool for every member. Also at zone conference I got to see the Winters, which are a pair of couple missionaries from my last area. I love them so so so big. They showed up to zone conference and were like "Sœur snuggs!! Take this!!" And slipped a tinfoil-wrapped loaf of mango-banana bread in my bag hahahah. They made it for us all the time and it's my absolute favorite. It made my week!
We've been having lessons with this papi named Leo. He's so awesome, and so funny. He likes talking about how it's messed that French people are selling Tahitian food, because they just don't make it right (honestly he's right tho but I didn't say that). But he's so fun, he loves testing our Tahitian, which is good, because my Tahitian is so bad, basically non-existent. But I swear I've learned more in an hour with papi Leo than in all my 3 weeks of MTC. I love him. Pretty sure he's trying to make us fafaru (fermented fish). He says he eats it like 4 times a week. Pray for me.
This week I've been studying the atonement of Christ. There are so many scriptures that detail the reason why he suffered for us, but this one is my favorite at the moment...
Alma 7:11 "And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people."
I love this scripture and its truths. Jesus Christ lived to take upon Himself our afflictions, so that He might perfectly know them and therefore know us. Our afflictions do not and will never define us, but they are important factors in our lives. Because Christ knows us and our afflictions, and has suffered for each one of them, He knows how to perfectly minister comfort to each one of us in our times of need.
Anyways, sorry for the lack of emails -- I love all of you so much, thank you for all the love and encouragement and support you give me :^) I love you !!
