Episodes 30, 31, 32: Baby's First Bible Bash
Another triplet email. Sorry mom. I've got no excuse really..
Anyways iaoranaaa tout le monde ! I hope youve all been doing great :^) Here's a quick and very sporadic recap of my last 3 weeks:
These past couple weeks I've been doing this really weird thing where I bust out in a (terrible, probably the worst) Scottish accent for a few minutes and just kinda say whatever. It's pretty entertaining until I slowly but surely turn American again, and then I just sound ridiculous. Not that I don't sound ridiculous while I do the accent, but you get it.
I learned that one of my friends from home just got called to this mission!! I'm so excited for her to come -- she'll probably be flying in around the beginning of November, and I'll have just passed my 13 month mark. I secretly wanna train her.. but don't tell Prez. I don't wanna jinx it.
Last monday, I woke up feeling kinda bad. But, we go on with our day, driving out to a BBQ at the opposite end of the sector, and I am feeling increasingly bad. Get to the BBQ, and I only last a few minutes before I had to go sit in the car for 3 hours. On the ride home I was dying hahah. Then we get home, I am helped down the stairs and onto my bed, where I proceed to simultaneously hold my companions hand and a garbage can at the same time. Fast forward a few minutes and I've chucked it. But then I felt great! I wouldn't say my great fear of throwing up was defeated, but it wasn't that bad. Call that character development.
This week we had a really interesting lesson. So when we had called this person, who was referred to us, we had agreed to meet them at the chapel, and they said they'd bring a friend and we're like "cool, the more the merrier". Anyways we're at the chapel and they show up, and it's two eighteen year old boys. Over the phone this 5 ft 6 eighteen year old with a full mustache sounded like a 40 year old man so it threw me off just a bit. Anyways, we start going on our plan of salvation lesson and about halfway through the friend that our original guy brought pulls out a marked up Bible, and I start sweating hahah. Then, the original guy pulls out this folder and starts flicking through it real fast, but he sets it up so that it's out of our view, but I caught a glimpse of the contents and saw a paper that said "the Bible of Joseph Smith" and knew we were in for a treat this lesson. Anyways, we finish up plan of salvation smoothly enough and we ask if they have any questions, to which our original guy basically cracks his fingers and goes "...yes." and then he starts going off about Joseph Smith and the spirit world and a bunch of stuff. After about an hour and a half we eventually get away but it was a pretty funny experience.
This past week we also focused a lot on ministry and charity. These are two things that I've come to find as the epitome of my mission -- and they're also things I've written about in these emails a lot. I also just gave a short lil talk all about it on Sunday so I'm a big fan. Charity and ministry are two celestial attributes that we have the opportunity, daily, to practice. When we practice these two qualities, we are practicing living a celestial life. There is no better cure for sadness, anger, or fear than service and spreading the pure love of Christ to those around you. Missionary work is often hard work, but for me it is made one million times easier by focusing on the realization that as we serve and forget out outer selves, our inner selves are likewise healed. I invite all of you this week to prayerfully find a way to help someone this week. I promise that as you do, you and that person will both be spiritually and temporally healed.
Anyways sorry once again that this is big and kind of a cluster. I hope it was at least a little entertaining for some of you hahah
I hope you all have a wonderful week, I love you all so much!
