Episode 27, 28, 29: Temporarily Vegetarian
Hello hello my lovely friends and family ! I hope you're all doing great :^)) Here's a rundown of some of my favourite moments of the last 3 weeks.
EPISODE 27: TRAMP STAMPS & TUNES
Lets start with my favourite quote of the week, from our district leader to his comp, over our nightly contact:
"I'm not getting a tramp stamp, elder."
Voilà. Hahah but yeah anyways this one was good! We had a whopping 4 lessons this week instead of 1. That sounds sarcastic, but I'm honestly pretty stoked about it :') Usually half of our day is spent getting catcalled, and then the other half is spent getting cancelled on. So whenever we can squeeze a lesson into that busy schedule I get pretty excited.
One shining aspect of this sector is my companion. Sœur Erickson and I get along too well. The only other person from eastern Washington in the mission, and we enjoy all the same things. One love we share is music -- we chat music constantly. Since we can't listen to the music we love, we kinda just... explain it to each other lol. But we both love rambling on about it so it works out! I've also been letting her in on all the new slang. I didn't know I'd have to explain what "that's gas" and "rizz" meant on the mission, but here I am.
EPISODE 28: NO MORE MEAT
Amazing great wonderful news -- we finally got faatamaaraas (member meals) this week ! We weren't starving or anything (pretty hard to do that here) but we've really been wanting to be able to meet and make connections with our members (apparently also hard to do). Our whole ward works so they're never available during the day, and so our member meals are kinda our best shot at making friends with them. They've been really good though and I've loved to finally be able to get to know the ward a little better !
This week as we went door-knocking (which is really door-yelling-at-gates), we heard some lady going off in Tahitian, and in my mind I was like "right well let's just go around that one", but we waved over there and the person who waved back ended up being two people actually. It was a middle aged woman and the most adorable little mami EVER :') the woman was her caretaker, as this little mami was wheelchair-bound. It was such a great blessing to be able to spend time with her. She may have told us the same thing five times over (due to memory loss) and couldn't speak much French, but she just had the biggest smile and the greatest warmth and light in her eyes! She just had a really wonderful and loving spirit, and my own joy grew as I spoke with her. Maybe I'm biased because I love old people, but she was absolutely the highlight of the week.
Ended this week on a great note by eating some extremely questionable chicken at a member meal (as in I'm quite sure I could see some uncooked pieces) and I felt like I was gonna throw up when we got home. For those of you who don't know, throwing up is solidly in my top 3 biggest fears, so I made my comp come sit and talk with me on the bathroom floor as I freaked out hahahah. I never ended up throwing up (power of prayer) but the ordeal scared me enough into becoming vegetarian for a bit.
EPISODE 29: TACO BELL THEIVERY
"Don't find success in the numbers, find success in the day"
- President Tuahu (our mission president)
That's for all you other missionaries out there. And all you regular people. It's for everyone.
Also hit 7 months this week. What in the heck !! 7 months of service and love and Jesus and raw fish. Let's go for 7 more.
Funny story. Pretty sure my mission card got hacked this week because I got an email from a Taco Bell in Las Vegas thanking someone named Richard for their order. I may not know much, but I do know that I'm not in Las Vegas, my name isn't Richard, and I certainly did not order Taco Bell (I wish). Richard, whoever you are, I hope you enjoyed that cheesy gordita crunch. Also, please stop using my card, thank you.
For a little challenge this week, I invite you all to express your love for your loved ones. Because if you love someone, you should let them know! Write a letter to your parents, do something kind for your siblings, literally anything. I promise youll not only see but feel the blessings of more outwardly showing your love for those you care about.
Sorry this was a long one, and sorry I say that every time hahah. I promise I'll stop sending giant emails at some point. Who knows when.
Anyways, I hope you all have a lovely week -- I love you all !!
