Episode 3: Crying In Front Of Dorothée
Bonjour tout le monde!! I hope you're all doing well -- this has been yet another week in the MTC. It still feels like I've been here for literally ever but it has been brought to my attention that we've been here for a whopping two weeks and two days
The weather has been nice here. At least I think it has haha. It's a bit cold at times but honestly I kinda like it -- plus Timpanogos got some snow this week because of the weather and it's the best view from our classroom now
This week started so chaotically. On Monday night me and some other sisters were out in the hallway of our dorm building before bed, just chilling having a great old time, when one of the sisters just gets this look on her face for a second before saying she was gonna pass out. So she proceeds to do that, some help comes super quickly, and me and a couple of the other sister go down a different hall to give them space. As we're rushing away we go past the bathroom and see another girl just absolutely hurling into the trash can. Soooo that's a pretty good representation of how it is here at night, just so much going on. (P.S. both girls are perfectly fine and healthy now)
Not gonna lie french has been a wee bit odd this week. I still feel like I get better every day but sometimes I just open my mouth to attempt to speak and the words are just completely lost from my brain hahahah. We had a thing called Helping Others this week where we basically just roleplay missionary teaching with an MTC employee, but this time it was in French. Me and Sœur Fichtner roll up to the meeting and we sit down with miss Dorthée (fake name the person picked for themselves lol) and we start. Now there are very few french speakers available for this Helping Others program so the elders in our district have also taught Dorothee. Knowing this, I asked one of them what to expect, and he said that she'd probably talk about her mom who passes away from cancer. Now I have no way of knowing if that part of Dorothee is genuine or just part of her character but I said okay, at least I know what to expect.
Wrong. Sort of.
So she brings up the mom. Knew it was gonna happen, prepared for it, were chillin. But then she starts crying. Okay. Less expected, but I get it, the spirit was strong and its a sad subject, real or not. But then I start crying. Completely unexpected. What. The heck. Is happening. It wasn't even just like a lone tear slithering down my cheek. It was like. a whole bunch. It was so much. I was so overwhelmed trying to speak French and not cry at the same time (both goals which I failed miserably at) that it was kinda like "donc... uh.. tu comprends la.. uh.. priere..?.." thrown in with a bunch of crying and looking at my companion basically pleading her to take over the lesson hahahahah. It was really something!
Also I have a new favorite french word. Its envoyé, which technicallyyyy means send, but my teacher said it can mean "full send" too hahaha, so now I just shout "ENVOYÉ!!" all the time
Anyways I should probably start putting spiritual thoughts into these. Something I've been thinking about a lot has been the fact that a lotta blessings come with action. We can ask for blessings, like for me, the blessing of the gift of tongues, but if I don't put in the work on my end it's a pretty slim chance that I'm gonna be able to speak French very well. When were looking for specific blessings, it's important to at least try to put in the specific work. This definitely doesn't just apply to missionaries -- i invite all of you to try it yourselves, because I promise it works!! God loves each and every one of us and promises great blessings, but we have to do our part as well.
Anyways sorry for the long email. I love reading the responses Im sent, I'm sorry i don't have time to respond to too many, but I promise I love reading all of them and they make me so happy! I hope you all have a great weekend.
Bonne chance,
Sœur Snuggs
