Episode 11: Joyeux Noël & Turkey Illness

Iaorana! H'churu? Today is my 3rd month mark on the mission. Which is just crazy to me hahaha. Time goes by so insanely fast! We had a really good lesson with our friend Matai. Matai is a funny guy, he wears a green beanie to every lesson, loves to talk about America, and knows his stuff about the Bible (but never in a bashing way). We've been teaching him since we started in Mataiea, and hes great, but he's not been super great in doing our invitations, like reading the Book of Mormon. So going into this week's lesson, my comp and I weren't really sure what to expect/do in general, because we can only keep teaching someone for so long if they aren't trying to do their part with invitations. But anyways, we start the lesson, we're going through the rétablissement (restoration) and we hit the Joseph Smith portion. My companion talks about how the Book of Mormon was translated by Joseph Smith, how old he was (not very), and how it was translated in 90 days. Ma...

Episode 10: CODE RED

Bonjour à tous! Comment ça était votre semaine?  This past week has flown by. It's kinda crazy that we're like halfway through our first transfer!  This week has been filled with a bunch of good stuff. On Monday we went to go visit the beach where they're gonna be holding the surfing portion of the 2024 Olympics, and then later that day I did something equally exciting and got a 25 dollar 2.5 pound bag of trail mix. We also revisited the Elon Musk cat family and I ate a bunch of really good sashimi/assorted raw fish. They now have a dog named Buck, specifically after the Ice Age character.  On Friday we had our Conference du Noël, which is basically just a big meeting for all the missionaries on Tahiti (just the island of Tahiti though, RIP to the missionaries on the Marquises, Australes, Tuamatus, etc., you were very missed). Each zone did skits and performances and ours was oh so special. I don't even really know how to describe it hahaha but let me just say that I wa...

Episode 9: Elon Musk The Cat

Iaoranaaaa tout le monde! Ça va? One week in Tahiti down. On Monday we had a really good faatamaraa, AKA member meal. They served us some steak strips on rice with broccoli, and apparently broccoli is really rare in Tahiti, so I got a good portion of that. It was really really really good hahaha. But honestly what made the meal is just how funny the family was. First of all, they had a cat named Elon Musk, and I about died laughing at that. Then the mother of the family tried to sell us on marrying her son. We were asking how many kids they had and she starts pulling up pictures of him and being like "il est très beau, oui?". We were trying to gently turn this grand offer down by saying things like  "ahh but sœur were missionaries!" And she'd just be like "ouiii but after, after!" hahahah. The funniest part was when she was trying to figure out my name and was like "snuggs... ohh sahnugggsss! I thought it said Snoop Dog or something!" Sooo no...

Episode 8: Not Vacation + Sava

Ia ora na/bonjour tout le monde! Wow this has been the biggest week ever. For one I moved to Tahiti so that's pretty cool. I'm serving in the Mataiea sector on the island of Tahiti! It's this quiet suburb area but our sector is huge (according to my comp)! We're also whitewashing, which means that we're just replacing both missionaries in this sector.  My French is.. definitely there. I'd say I can catch a good 40% of what people are saying most of the time hahah. I can say things too sometimes! I gave my testimony yesterday in church AND the opening prayer soo I'm basically fluent I was really really sad to say goodbye to my MTC district (19K, if you guys are reading this, faaitoito, see some of you at christmas lol). But now I have a new district, and they're awesome too! We've even got an elder who was in MTC district 20/the other missionaries who flew over to Tahiti with us on Wednesday so that's super fun.  We've had a ton of lessons alr...
