Episode 7: Endgame

Salut! Comment ça va, tout le monde? J'espere très bien!  This week went by at lightning speed. I feel like I just wrote one of these. I think I'm just going a bit stir crazy hahaha -- don't get me wrong, the MTC has been super great and so fun, but I know that myself and the rest of my district are for sure ready to ditch this place for Tahiti.  Speaking of which, we got our flight plans, and a whole 21 of us are going to be flying to Tahiti on Tuesday! That is going to be a BUMPING plane ride hahahah, I can't wait.  Happy late Thanksgiving as well! I hope you all had a great one -- ours was actually super good. We had a great devo, a surpringly alright lunch, a movie, some awesome service (our district crushed it), a concert by Jon Schmidt from The Piano Guys, and some suuuuper cool Christmas lights at night! It was honestly my favorite day of the MTC so far.  We've also had a lot of shenanigans this week, pictured below. I think we're all just finally snappin...

Episode 6: Braindead

Salut! Yet another week in paradise has gone by, and I swear they just keep going faster. How is it already Friday?? How do I only have one more full week of MTC?! If it's not clear, I'm kinda freaking out But anyways this was a week! Honestly most of its been a bit of a blur. All we've really done this week is learn Tahitian, and oh boy, am I terrible at it hahahah. There's like this wall in my brain that absolutely nothing is getting through except for "yes" "no" "who, what, why" and "faaitoito", which has no direct translation but means something like bonne chance, which means good luck. That's an exaggeration of course, but honestly when I'm put on the spot those are the only words I got hahahaha One of our teachers was eating lunch with us one day and telling us some stories about some of his stories from Tahiti and his investigators, and he brought up a man named Dave. Oh Dave. We love Dave. He said some crazy stuff ...

Episode 5: Sin Crusher

Salut tout le monde!  First off, as expected, WOW tahitian is crazy. Like crazy difficult. At least for me hahah. You also gotta be super careful with your pronunciation and pauses in your words, because if not you can say some pretty messed up stuff. like okay, say this word normally and it means "holy" but say it wrong and it means.. something I shouldn't write in this email lol (that is a real example by the way, and the word, which is mo'a, is literally in the name of the church sooo better hope I say it right). On the bright side though the word for atonement (taraehara) literally translates to "sin crusher" so that's pretty awesome  There's honestly not much more going on to report on this week, so this is gonna be the most boring email yet. This week has gone by so quickly though! I'll try to have some more fun stuff next week/during the rest of my stay here. I fly out in just a few weeks though so soon they'll be way more fun!  I hope...

Episode 4: Les Bon Bons Chinois & Baby Centipedes

Salut! Another week has come and gone here at the mtc. This was our very last week of french before tahitian immersion and I am terrified lol. Like sure, french is hard and there's a stupid amount of conjugations and rules (still love it but come on guys.. enough is enough with all the tenses) but tahitian is like the wild west. There are no rules. There is a single tense. There are no conjugations. Absolutely zero Latin roots. I have absolutely no idea how this is gonna go hahah so next weeks email might be interesting language-wise hahaha As per the title, me and my comp were walking to class when we stumbled upon this disgusting little mongrel (pictured below) just slithering his way over the pavement. It was a little baby centipede. So, according to my teacher, apparently tahitians have exactly 3 fears: ghosts, falling coconuts, and centipedes. I mean, they are venomous and their bite is super painful so that checks out. Anyways we just went about our day lol but if I see anoth...
